In a company, a leader is often a manager who leads certain department. So, many people will think that leader is the same as manager. Then, leadership skills are similar to managerial skills. However, those two are different in terms and practical. Leadership can be defined as the way someone motivate, inspire, guide, explain the vision, and all supervision related to the business to the followers. On the other hand, managerial skills are the way someone brings the company or department vision into everyday procedure. He should move from motivation and inspiration into practical decisions in routine tasks.
Furthermore, leadership focuses on the action you do to the personnel on your team. The tasks will be about deciding the way to advertise, decorate the company, profile the business, or determine what to announce to the public. But management handles the entire back office tasks and makes sure the business work in line with the ideas stated by leadership. Few people can do both and most people relatively only has one of them. That is why they others to supply the other skill.
For example, there is someone who wants to run a business. Automatically, she needs other people to help her in managing the finance etc. In hiring someone, the owner often cannot choose herself since she does not know the way the way to do so. Therefore, she has no other choice except hiring a business manager who will handle all the tasks which the owner cannot make. It can be concluded that leadership is the way to motivate and inspire the followers to do the best. But management is the way to handle everyday tasks which need to be taken care of. |
